Diploma in IT (Advanced)

The Diploma in IT is a qualification designed in partnership with universities and employers which gives you the chance to develop the knowledge and skills you will need for both higher education and work.

It will give you a headstart, providing you with the skills you need to excel in one of the most exciting and fast-moving industries in the UK.

Advanced level is designed for 16 to 19 year-olds. You will take the following topics:

  1. Diploma in IT, advanced, 14-16, course typesThe potential of technology
    Using topical examples, you will explore the impacts and contribution of technology to society, organisations and individuals. This will include a particular focus on global business competitiveness and transformational effects of the internet and mobile communications.
  2. Understanding organisations
    You will evaluate differences in companies’ organisational structures and styles, and explain the keys factors underpinning successful business performance, with particular reference to business processes and the impact of technology systems.
  3. Professional development
    You will develop the capacity to communicate and operate effectively in the modern business environment. This includes the principles of professional practice, business analysis and business case development, along with skills in handling customer problems, presenting proposals, negotiating and operating in a team.
  4. Creating technology solutions
    You will gain a solid understanding of technology fundamentals, including design principles, data analysis and programming tasks. Developing understanding of the solutions life cycle, this learning will be rooted in topical contexts, linking technology solutions to organisational needs.
  5. Multimedia and digital projects
    You will develop a project based approach to developing contemporary digital media solutions, leading to the design and development of a creative multimedia product that demonstrates an understanding of business requirements, technical competence, and awareness of audience needs.
  6. Making projects successful
    You will learn about the principles of the project life-cycle and its application in organisations, identifying key factors in the success or failure of projects. You will develop high quality project plans relevant to realistic work environments, including project plans for new technology-enabled solutions.
  7. Managing technology systems
    You will develop the capability to manage small-scale live technology system operations to meet a customer’s business requirements, including systems availability, networking, security, problem solving and change management.
