Here are a few pointers to help you meet your deadlines and preserve your sanity...

Tips & tricks, How to get on top of coursework, 14-16It has to be done so deep breath, head down and get on with it.
Here are a few pointers to help:

  • Choose topics of interest to you – this will help motivate you.
  • Get organised – plan projects and leave plenty of time to do the research and write it up.
  • Find somewhere quiet to study so you can concentrate.
  • Research topics carefully – do all your research before you start writing it up otherwise you’ll get in a muddle and make more work for yourself which will lead to stress and panic.
  • Write clearly and neatly – check spelling, grammar, punctuation. This may seem obvious the basics are often overlooked.
  • Check if there is a word limit – if so, stick to it. You won’t get extra marks for extra words.
  • Do not plagiarise – it is very important it is your own work. Don’t copy chunks of text and pass it off as your own. If you copy work then you probably won’t understand it and this could become a real problem if it is related to exams you take later on.
  • Plagiarised work is easy to spot – people have distinctive writing styles. Also there are computer programs that can help teachers and examiners to identify plagiarism!
  • It is fine to share and talk through ideas with friends but make sure you write up your coursework on your own.
  • If you get stuck speak to your teacher – they are there to help!
