Roundhouse

Well-rounded

Roundhouse mx, video, company profileFrom modest Victorian beginnings, as a steam engine repair shed, to legendary cultural venue, the Roundhouse has an enviable heritage. Following an extensive refurbishment, the doors of the Grade II* listed building reopened in 2006. Since then, more than half a million people have been to music, theatre, dance and circus events, and 15,000 13–25 year olds have developed their creative talents in the Roundhouse Studios.

Roundhouse redevelopment

The redevelopment involved bringing the performing space back to life by soundproofing the pitched roof, installing a flexible seating system and the latest lighting and sound technology. At the same time a state-of-the-art creative centre, comprising 24 studios, was developed below the Main Space for 13-25 year olds.

Round up

Artistic plans at the Roundhouse include circus, music festivals, large scale theatre, multi-media festivals, installations, talks and screenings. But it’s the organisation’s focus on young people that makes it stand out - 13-25 year olds are involved at every level, from membership of the Board of Directors to helping to create marketing campaigns.

The Roundhouse also hosts a digital radio station Roundhouse Radio which broadcasts directly from Roundhouse studios 24/7. Roundhouse Radio is a truly youth led independent radio station, managed and produced by young people who have come through Roundhouse Studios.
