Database Architect

COMPANY: TATE

JOB TITLE: Database Architect

  • Ensure that the integration of the Gallery’s databases continue to support the publication of the Collection and related material online
  • Work with Collections Information Management staff to ensure the quality and completeness of Collection data published online
  • Develop new databases and enhance existing database structures and integration processes to support new requirements
  • Work collaboratively with Gallery colleagues on Collection related projects to deliver technical solutions that enhance and improve access to the Collection online
  • Respond to users’ requests for information by querying and reporting from databases
  • Provide advice and help to colleagues, investigate and resolve issues
  • Manage a small team of staff providing opportunities for them to develop professionally and personally

RELATED DEGREE:

HND in Computer Studies

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Computer programming - designing and developing complex computer programs whilst working in public and private sector organisations
  • Database administration - managing large mainframe databases, monitoring growth and capacity; integrity; restructuring and re-sizing
  • Creating network and relational databases - data analysis, database design, database definition and implementation
  • Data migration - data analysis and data mapping to migrate data from existing sources to  new database repositories
  • Database integration – to amalgamate information from discrete data sources enabling use of that data in web-based and other applications
  • Managing small teams – proving an environment where staff can be creative, take responsibility for their work and to develop personally and progress their career

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Logical thinking – the ability to solve problems creatively and technically
  • Data structures – understanding how data should be defined and stored to support system requirements such as searching, sorting, reporting and creating databases that support these requirements
  • Relational database analysis – understanding the principals of relational database design, applying these principals when designing databases
  • Data standards – understanding the importance of consistency and integrity of data, defining data standards that ensure this
  • Querying and reporting – ability to understand relational database structures, to extract data from these databases using SQL (Structure Query Language)
  • Ability to work with and communicate with a diverse range of people both technical and non-technical
