Technical Engineer

COMPANY: BBC Research & Development

JOB TITLE: Technical Engineer

  • Thinking of ideas for new products and services or possible applications of new technology
  • Planning and designing technical solutions for these ideas
  • Development and technical realisation of projects on a demonstration or prototype basis
  • Creating and running tests and measurements for project evaluation
  • Document research progress and results, possibly in national or international publications
  • Working closely with other research engineers or software developers inside and outside the BBC
  • Continuous studying and keeping up to date with new technology and relevant research from other companies or institutions
  • Taking part in the BBC backstage community

RELATED DEGREE:

University Diploma "Media Technology" at TU Ilmenau (German Degree "Diplom-Ingenieur" is comparable to M.Sc.)

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Internship at Robert Bosch GmbH Corporate Research (Multimedia Systems)
  • Student Assistant / Graduate Assistant at Technical University Ilmenau
  • Student Television
  • Work on hobby projects

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • General problem solving
  • An understanding of several relevant technologies, e.g. audio-video-coding, digital image processing, optics, telecommunications, broadcasting, internet...
  • Basic knowledge of TV production and filming
  • Advanced knowledge in programming languages, e.g. C++, Java, XML, OpenGL
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams
