JOB TITLE:
Oracle Enterprise Solutions and Mainframe Analysis. Mainly I deal with databases. Databases are needed by any company either to store a miriad of information. Information about products they are selling, their customers (names/addresses etc), their staff, or sites are typical examples of the types of information stored by many businesses.
Some businesses may not sell a product, but instead sell a service, e.g a doctor's surgery. Oracle is a ready-made database system which needs customizing to the individual needs of a business. These days most businesses have a computerised system but it can be made up of many old legacy systems which lack efficient integration.
The enterprise Solutions department of Infosys offers solutions to customers which address the lack of integration found in these old systems. My personal job in this process is to analyse the old system, and see how customization or 'mapping' can help systems communicate better with each other. I then write documentation for the design (called Functional Design) which is forwarded to the customer for approval. If the customer approves this, then the next stage is forwarded to someone else to do the 'lower level' Technical Design before actually 'building' the new system.
